Buying Monarchs

Monarchs are available from Shady Oak Butterfly Farm as
eggs, caterpillars, chrysalises, or adults.

The host plant for Monarchs is milkweed. You MUST have milkweed to raise Monarchs.
Be sure to have your host plants before your shipment date!
It is the only plant in the world that Monarch caterpillars will eat.
Their appetite is enormous!
Pesticide can be fatal to caterpillars.
If your milkweed plants have been treated with pesticide it may take eight weeks
for your leaves to become safe for your caterpillars to eat.

Buying Painted Ladies

Painted Ladies are available from Shady Oak Butterfly Farm
as eggs, caterpillars, chrysalises, or adults.

Painted Lady caterpillars eat about 100 different plants.
Among these are Hollyhock, plantain, okra, and sunflower.
Be sure you have your host plants before your shipment date!
Pesticide can be fatal to caterpillars. If your milkweed plants have been treated with pesticide it may take eight weeks for your leaves to become safe for your caterpillars to eat.

Buying Other Species

We supply species of several species of butterflies, depending upon the time of year and the state into which we are shipping. The USDA regulates shipment of butterflies across state line. Email us your state if you are interested in a different species and we will let you know which species are permitted to be shipped into your state.
